Raft Stories turns your text and ideas into beautifully narrated audio, lets you create your own AI stories, and can even narrate them in your own voice. To do that, some things have to leave your device: the words you want narrated go to our AI partners, and your account lives on our servers so your library syncs across devices.
We only collect what the app needs to work, we never sell your data, we do not show ads, and you can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app at any time. Voice recordings you make for voice cloning are yours: delete the voice and the recording goes too.

When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive and store a unique account identifier and your email address (and your name, if your sign-in provider shares it). We use this to create your account, sync your library, and contact you about your subscription if needed.
Text, documents (PDF, EPUB, plain text), and stories you add or generate are stored in your account so they are available across your devices. Flashcards, summaries, and other study aids you generate are stored the same way.
If you choose to create a custom voice, we record a short sample of your voice and send it to our voice provider (ElevenLabs) to build a voice model. A voice sample and the voice model built from it are biometric identifiers — sometimes called a voiceprint — and we treat them as such.
Consent. We only create a voice from a recording made by the person whose voice it is, who confirms at the time of recording that the voice is their own and that they agree to it being used to narrate stories for that family's personal use. Voices may only be recorded by someone aged 18 or over. We do not create voices from children's recordings.
What we do with it. We use the voice only to narrate content inside the app for that family. We do not sell, lease, trade or otherwise profit from voice samples or voice models, and we do not use them to identify anyone.
Retention schedule. We keep the voice sample so the voice can be rebuilt if it is removed from our provider's active pool. A voice sample is permanently destroyed within 12 months of the last time that voice was used to narrate anything, or sooner if you delete the voice or your account. Once a sample is destroyed the voice cannot be rebuilt, and the person would need to record again. Destruction is automatic and runs on a schedule; it does not depend on you asking.
Deleting sooner. You can delete a custom voice, and its underlying recording, at any time in the app. Deleting your account removes the sample from our storage and the voice model from ElevenLabs.
When you subscribe, our payment processors (Stripe, and Apple if you purchase through the App Store) handle your card or payment details directly. We never see or store your full card number. We store only your subscription status (plan, source, renewal or expiry date) so we can unlock the features you have paid for.
Our servers keep standard request logs (such as timestamps and error information) to keep the service running and secure, and we keep simple usage counters to enforce fair-use limits. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics tracking SDKs.

These partners process your content to return a result to you. Generated audio is cached so that an identical request (the same text in the same voice) can be served instantly and without re-billing. This cache is keyed on the content itself and does not contain your name, email, or account identifier.
Your account, library, and generated audio are hosted on Google Cloud Platform (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage). Data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. We use providers that maintain industry-standard security.
Raft Stories includes bedtime and children's stories, but the app is designed to be set up and controlled by a parent or guardian. The account holder must be at least 13 years old (and old enough to enter a binding agreement in their country). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. Custom voices should be created using the account holder's own voice, with the consent of the person being recorded. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact hello@stillraft.com and we will delete it.
We keep your account and content until you delete them or close your account. When you delete your account in the app (Settings, then Privacy and account, then Delete account), we remove your profile, library, generated audio, and custom voices from our systems. Server request logs are retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then discarded.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the GDPR (EU and UK), the CCPA/CPRA (California), and the Privacy Act 1988 (Australia), including rights to access, delete, and object to processing. We honour these requests through the in-app controls above or by emailing us. Our lawful bases for processing include performing our contract with you (running the service) and your consent (for example, creating a custom voice).
Access to the app's features requires an authenticated account, content is transmitted over encrypted connections, and access to your stored data and media is restricted to your authenticated account. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide notice in the app.
